Filed under: Attire and Equipment Author: HC RugbyHi all,
For every training, pls bring your mouth guard and water bottle.
The mouth guard is to protect yourself, we dun want another zhan hao and since it is compulsory during nationals, you need to get used to wearing it.
The weather these few days have been quite intolerable so do bring your waterbottle to rehydrate your body.
Pls send these information to Shawn if you havent done so:
1. Height and Weight
2. 2.4km timing
3. Overseas plan during the holidays
pls send it to him at shawnkoh2005@hotmail.com

Filed under: Author: HC RugbyFollowing the addition of 20-odd J1s, our originally dwindling numbers has swelled up immensely by a astronomical percentage, which is a pleasant headache for all of us here to have, and one that's welcomed by all coaches alike worldwide.
Intensive training has been ongoing for the J2s since the end of last year's promos, and orientation-cum-CCA open house has been a huge success for us, amassing as much as 48 names just on the day itself. It was a huge morale booster, as well as a tremendous change in trainings. From just a handful of people doing 'hands' up and down the college field with constant shouts of 'QUICK HANDS QUICK HANDS' from lixi, to the constant reminders of 'you guys need more cardio' by junzhe, continuing with henri, junzhe's brother, who keeps screaming 'WTF IS THIS, and eventually with cheetuan's 'you guys better LISTEN ARH'. This turnout rate was totally unheard of, foreign, or even alien to us last year.
Indeed, we have been through lots of turmoil throughout the short period of a year. Braving through all the storms can only make us stronger, the bond between us being doubly as strong as the carbon-carbon bonds in diamond. Whatever arguments/fights we've had on the field, we've left it on the field. In this critical period of time, it is everyone's hope, especially mine, that no conflicts befall us and separate us from our goal.
Right as I'm speaking, the team is slowly falling into place, just like a well-greased motor, or a almost-completed jigsaw. It's heartening to see so many people putting their hearts into trainings, and even age-defying stunts (quotes cheetuan "the fittest guy in the team is an old man, how ironic").
To those who may be in the matches these season, take heart; for it is remarkable seeing the progess you guys have made in such a short time. You guys have caused a serious amount of headache to the team selection, which can only be beneficial to everyone. To those who may be playing, be warned; perhaps you are here due to your position, or because you have the heart and guts to be there, but one thing is for sure, you have taken someone else's place. Make full use of it, never compromise, never back down from a challenge, have pride in what you are doing, and do the others proud.
Throw in your hardest tackles, reach for those ankles in desperate times, or even have a perfectly inelastic head-on collision just for the greater good. Swing out your smoothest pass with deadliest accuracy, the decisive pass which unlocks any defence, or simply throw your opponents off their feet with one wicked swerve-and-turn.
Be proud of yourself, be proud to be a HC rugger.

One to remember.
Filed under: videos Author: HC Rugbygiven there has been rather few posts recently, heres' just a little one:
Hey
Playing touch rugby can pay dividends when it comes to full contact matches.
Running
In touch rugby players tend to run sideways more. Since they cannot "bust" through the line, they look for gaps by shifting across the defence. Defenders are not therefore committed. This reduces the chances of creating gaps.
Skills/tactics: Commit defenders by running straight.
Passing
With more time on the ball, touch rugby promotes the use of the "huge" miss pass, perhaps cutting out two or three attacking players. From a defensive point of view, this is not generally difficult to defend, since defenders can easily slide across. In the "full-on" game it is rare that these passes have much effect either, unless there are dummy runners and strike runners coming onto the ball.
Skills/tactics: Commit defenders by fixing and passing.
Switching / the cut pass
With all the runners tending to stand flat and the ball carrier running sideways, switch passes and dummy switch runs become a feature of touch rugby. This rarely creates space, however, since the switch takes the ball back towards trouble, and there are fewer players left to pass to if the dummy switch is used.
A number of experts see these switches as "lazy" support, offering little in the way of positive outcome, commensurate with the effort of making the run in the first place.
Skills/tactics: Create overloads (more attackers than defenders) by looping after the pass, rather than having runners looking for the switch pass.
When to switch in touch rugby: A switch pass into touch rugby is probably best left to the wing man and their inside man. It brings the ball back into play and helps prevent the "criminal" waste of ball that is running into touch.
Width and spacing
In attack, touch players revert to almost military specific spacing. Each player is equidistant from the last. This allows the defence easily to space itself to counter. They also do not have to spread out to the sides of the pitch.
Skills/tactics: Use the whole width of the pitch. This means wing men on both ends of the line standing close to the touchline. The other players should be constantly adjusting their spacing. Running lines will then be more varied.
A final thought
Touch rugby is seen as a fun way of getting a game of rugby going as quickly as possible. Imposing lots of constraints can be seen as spoiling a "good thing". The question is this – if we have a chance to get the ball in hand and move it around, why not do it correctly?
Some "unfun" fundamentals early in the season will lead to a more "fun" game of touch in the future. Patience, persistence and practice, lead to executed excellence and enjoyment!"
personally, i think that the article have aptly summed/highlighted the key mistakes that we all make when we play touch. So given that we now play touch so frequently, do note the list of common mistakes and DO NOT EVER repeat them again.

alex

HEY. ITS THE HOLIDAYS (TRAINING)
Filed under: Author: Anonymousyo people! ec here. Its the time to be merry...shalalalala.lalalala. The holidays are here and after our OPs are over, REAL training will start ((:
Meanwhile, while you poor blokes are preparing for that final hurdle for PW (good luck guys), the exco here needs YOUR help. We will be realllly grateful if EVERYONE can put down their plans for the holidays...not because we are like the irritating school admin and needs to know if u'll contract Bird Flu (or AIDS) but rather we need to have a rough idea of when people will miss trainings.
So, please put down your holiday plans in the comments section, stating VERY clearly the dates when u'll be away and the REASONS for your absence.
That said, training in the holidays will be complusory and it will be a good opportunity for us to improve so everyone will be expected to come for training except for the dates which you state that u cant come.
Thank You people and GOOD LUCK for OP ((:
CHAI SHUAI! haven't seen ya for a while, hope that you are on the path towards recovery and hope that u'll make it back in time! The team needs ya! Take good care of yourself!
P.S Anyone interested in weights training can contact yi-er cause he is a fitness buff and he's so strong :D
28 Oct Training Review
Filed under: Author: zheGuys, just some noteworthy and not-so-desirable points from today's training:
NW:
1) Vast improvement in pop passes.
2) Improved communication among the backs when on the offensive.
3) Forwards have FINALLY revealed their mettle in the area of tackling and crashing.
NSD:
1) Erroneous catching when doing lateral passing.
2) Backs are NOT sprinting into the ball when doing a line offensive!*
3) Tackles on the Rhino still on the high side for some.
4) HIGH TACKLES during the game. Knock it off guys, only gonna earn yourselves cards and
penalties.
5) Stamina still not present.
* You ain't gonna be able to gain ground on the offensive if u dun sprint into the ball.
Kindly continue working on the running even during your free time, if possible that is. Today's pace was alright, but seriously, it'd be much better with more ferocity and passion. Self initiative and drive are the key, i hate to holler.
Tht's all folks. Great session today.
